Melissa Campbell Xavier has served as a Spanish-English Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist for the Washington County School District since 2018. Prior to moving to St. George, she spent a decade in Monterey County, California, serving public school districts with high populations of native Spanish speakers and low-income students.

Her early career includes roles in educational publishing and assessment. At an educational publishing firm specializing in English Learner materials, she managed exhibits and special events, successfully navigating the brand’s merger with National Geographic School Publishing. She also served as a Quality Assurance Editor in the standardized testing division at CTB/McGraw-Hill.

Raised in Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, and California, Melissa spent her early years with her paternal grandmother—a former children’s librarian—before entering foster care. Her grandmother instilled a lifelong love of literacy and education, inspiring Melissa’s passion for language and her career in speech therapy.

Melissa lives in St. George with her husband, a retired school psychologist. An avid traveler, her recent adventures include trips to Egypt, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and hidden gems across the U.S. 

Outside of work, she volunteers with RSQ Dog Rescue, loves Miniature Schnauzers, and enjoys crochet, word games, cooking, weightlifting, hiking, and running local road races (5Ks to half marathons, as well as the St. George Marathon).
