Mrs. Leany's family moved to St. George when the population was only 5-6,000 residents, so she has truly seen it grow. She is a product of the great southern Utah culture and education system. Before returning to finish her teaching degree, Mrs. Leany was a floral designer and wedding consultant and later became a certified wallcovering specialist and designer in a large family business.

She has a wonderful family, married to an outstanding man, with two very talented and hard-working grown sons, and one grandson, who, in her opinion, is the absolute best. Like when her children were growing up, she still loves the outdoors and spends as much time as possible glamping and fishing, both of which allow her to read extensively. Mrs. Leany loves to garden and bottle the produce they grow. She also loves animals and currently shares her home with three cats and an enormous pitbull that thinks he's another cat.

As her children were growing up, Mrs. Leany found herself gravitating to their schools as a volunteer because it felt (and continues to feel) like "home." She loved her 19 years in the classroom, teaching language arts and/or Utah Studies. She especially loved her association with the National History Day program, as it motivated her students to go well beyond typical expectations, and she proudly watched as they were rewarded with state and national opportunities.

Mrs. Leany has been the Lava Ridge media coordinator for nine years and loves it, as she can share her passion for reading, history, and research with both students and teachers alike. She finds as much joy in working with students now as on the day she began teaching. It's a wonderful and rewarding adventure.
