Safety Resources
Our Response
If your student is referred to the Counselors for suicidal ideation or thoughts of self-harm, we will take the following steps to keep them safe and get them the help they need:
We will complete a risk assessment using the Columbia Suicide Severity Scale. Click here to learn more about this tool.
For all risk levels:
- we will complete an LRIS Safety Plan. Click here to see this tool.
- we will contact parent(s) or guardian(s) with resources on this page and other resources specific to their situation.
- We will offer free therapy to student through our Mental Health Assistance Program (MHAP).
For HIGH risk levels, in addition to the above, we will also:
- contact the appropriate responsible adult so that the child is not left alone, and can be transported to a safe place for ongoing care.
- Coordinate the student’s return to school so that school personnel is prepared to support their transition back to school.
